The Best Debate in the Universe - Former Google engineer James Damore wrote a controversial memo regarding forced diversity and quotas in the workplace. Part of it included an argument that women are biologically less suited for engineering and leadership roles. The article got a huge backlash and Google fired him. So the debate this week is: WAS GOOGLE RIGHT TO FIRE THE ENGINEER FOR THE MEMO HE WROTE?
Monday August 14th 2017
Was Google right to fire the engineer for the controversial memo he wrote? Debate starts at 23:20. We're joined by Jamie Pine, who according to Keemstar, is an "ex-reality star." Jamie joins the debate about the Google engineer who wrote a memo about diversity in the workplace and the biological differences between men and women in STEM fields. Plus, for the first time while recording, I did an actual spit-take (around 37:00). Watch the video version here at Madcast Media Network YouTube channel:
Here's one of Jamie's videos (episode 4). I watched this out of order, as geniuses tend to do, and was still hooked. Give it a chance, it's really brilliant:
We also received an awesome care package from super-fan JIM. He sent us some peanuts, M&Ms, craisins and beef jerky to make our own manly trail mix. Thank you Jim! What a badass.
Rucka and I got into a spirited debate about fascism this episode. Who wins? America. Plus did Mikey Bolts get his promotion? Yes. Fuck clickbait. Also, Mikey made me do an actual spit-take this episode. This was one of the funniest moments on a podcast in recent memory. Glad it's on video.
Bonus episode #3 is coming soon, but you can purchase #2 from iTunes, Amazon and our own website:
Also, a big you're-welcome to everyone who pre-ordered my book: F*CK WHALES: Petty Essays from a Brilliant Mind. The countdown has begun. October 17. Clear your year. Clear your life:
We finally round out this episode with a story of some showoff grandma in Thailand who gets a degree. Good luck putting that to use. Also, I get that kings are supposed to have an excess of things, but letters in your name should not be one of them. And we also talk about the ex-QVC president's problem with dating.
