The Best Debate in the Universe - If a train is heading towards a group of pedestrians, but you could switch its track and only hit one person tied to the tracks instead, would you? Which decision is more ethical? That's the trolley problem, and the debate this week is: WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO THE TROLLEY PROBLEM?
Tuesday April 10th 2018
Debate starts at 06:49. Author, speaker and head of blockchain for the Hyperloop, Federico Pistono joins us this week to debate: What is the solution to the trolley problem? This sounds like an old philosophical exercise, but it has a surprising number of real-world implications with self-driving cars. For example, if a car's brakes malfunction on a narrow 2-lane road where pedestrians are crossing, should the car sacrifice the driver in order to save the group of pedestrians? What if the driver is super fat and an ex-convict? There are many stupid variations of this problem, and we cover most of them. Plus we add a few dumb ones to the mix. Great episode. Ron Babcock's doubles down on his disdain for cottage cheese. A particular hombre who's bad happens to disagree (listen for the voicemail at the tail end). Junior Journalist Taylor Nikolai brings the news, plus makes the mistake of saying I'm only awesome and not great and awesome. Thin ice. Mikey Bolts is in studio again and hot on the mix.

We round out the episode with a story of a doctor who provides his own sperm to a couple looking for a donor. Now they're pissed even though the doctor delivered what they wanted: a tall man with brown hair and blue eyes. Sounds like me, minus the blue eyes.
